Connie Kasella
Unique colored pencil drawings, using VIBRANT colors and a VIVID imagination
In April 2009, on a trip to Playa Del Carmen Mexico, Kasella brought along a sketch pad and some colored pencils to pass time on the plane. She had drawn some in high school, but it had been over 30 years. While in Mexico she visited the great temple of Chichen Itza and was struck by the shapes and images of the Mayan culture. She took photos of the grey stone images and then brought them to life on paper using vibrant colors. In the past 10 months she has created over 100 images many with a Mayan flair, some very abstract with a touch of reality.
"I really enjoy putting pencil to paper and just waiting to see what comes out, rarely are my images intentional. They usually start out as something very abstract and then often morph into something with an element of reality."
